01 Why Urmi exists
Two kinds of builder,
one site.
AI apps have become good at writing copy and code. But when they work on a website, they usually either produce markup nobody wants to maintain, or they cannot touch the site at all.
Urmi starts from a different idea: the AI should use the same building blocks as the person. The same containers, the same widgets, the same Design System, the same undo. Then work moves back and forth freely — the AI drafts a page, you adjust the details, the AI updates the menu, you tweak the header.
That is why the MCP server is part of the plugin rather than an add-on, why every AI change is snapshotted, and why the AI reads a build guide before it touches anything. And it is why the visual editor comes first: a site you cannot comfortably edit by hand is not a site you own.

02 Principles
What we will not
compromise on.
Each principle is backed by how the plugin is built, and you can check every claim on this site in the code.
Fast
Pages are rendered as HTML on the server. Each page gets its own CSS file, and widget styles and scripts load only where a widget is used. The front-end runtime is about 2 KB.
Accessible
Widgets come with keyboard support and proper semantics, animations respect reduced-motion settings, and both the editor and the AI can check a page for accessibility problems.
Private
No tracking, no account and no data sent to Urmi. Fonts can be self-hosted, embeds can wait for a click, and AI features only run with keys you add.
No lock-in
Pages keep a plain HTML copy of their content, whole sites export as a kit, and designs export as JSON. Your content stays in your WordPress database.
Editable by hand
Whatever an AI builds is made of ordinary containers and widgets. There is no hidden code and no separate AI format — open the page and change anything.
Free
Urmi is free: every feature, no account and no paid tier. The readable source of the editor ships inside the plugin, next to the compiled files.
03 How it is built
Boring technology,

React on the inside
The editor is a React application with a live canvas. Its TypeScript sources are included in the plugin.
PHP on the outside
Widgets render on the server as plain HTML. Visitors do not download the editor or a front-end framework.
WordPress all the way down
Pages, templates and settings live in WordPress posts, post meta and options, and the MCP server runs on the WordPress REST API.
